Why it matters

Coman, founded in 2010, built the Go! M1 series around one idea: height adjustment should not slow a shoot down. The maker says a one-click lift mechanism extends or collapses all four sections with a single press, so the monopod can be raised quickly when a higher vantage point is suddenly needed, such as at an event.

According to the maker, maximum height is 1750mm and minimum folded height is 660mm. Removing the foot support brings it down to 512mm for transport.

Materials and base

The handle uses forged carbon fiber, which the maker likens to the material in high-end sports car spoilers. Coman says it resists stretching and warping, stays light, and does not turn cold in winter the way a metal handle can. The foot support is a one-piece design in ultra-high-strength steel; the maker claims 300% higher compressive strength than an aluminum alloy equivalent and a load capacity of up to 20kg.

Three models, three mounts

  • M1s: 3/8-inch mount for direct connection to gimbals with a 3/8-inch thread
  • M1: 1/4-inch screw mount, with a 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch adapter included
  • M1 Pro: auto-adapting 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch mount that needs no adapter

Quick release and the V5 head

An easy-release module with a safety lock handles camera mounting, and the maker says Coman's family gimbal quick-mount design lets setup finish with a light press on the camera's bottom quick-release plate. The V5 gimbal offers 360° horizontal and ±90° pitch adjustment with hydraulic damping. Coman says it accepts 99% of Manfrotto-standard quick-release plates on the market and, with its limit switch adjusted, works with DJI RS2-4 stabilizers.

The V5 also includes a two-stage one-key foot support: a light press on the pedal releases the angle limit on the foot's ball head, a deeper press switches it to free movement, and another press returns the foot tube to vertical.
