Why it matters

Anyone who has opened a pair of glasses, a drone or a laptop knows the routine: PH000 or PH00? T5 or T6? Swapping through near-identical bits wastes time, and the wrong guess can strip a tiny screw head. Built S1 targets exactly that moment, using a camera, AI recognition and a smart case to handle identification, bit selection and torque, while leaving the actual work in the user's hands.

Show it the screw, follow the light

According to the maker, Built S1's recognition is trained on tens of thousands of real repair photos. Hold the rear camera square to a screw and it identifies the drive type and size, then sends the result to the S1 Smart Case. The case's TFT color display shows the screw information while LEDs light the slot holding the matching bit among its 52. To keep images sharp at this scale, where the maker notes even a 1mm difference in distance can blur the picture, a precision contact probe on the rear of the tool rests on the screw surface to fix the camera distance physically.

Torque you can see and set

Electric torque runs from 1 to 10 kgf・cm, and the companion mobile app lets users tune torque within that range for each of four modes. The app also shows the image captured by the rear HD camera along with the recognized drive type, size and recommended bit, so the AI's reasoning is visible. Auto Torque Assist is on by default, suggesting a preset, conservative torque for the identified screw and remembering the last setting. The maker itself cautions that correct torque also depends on material and application, so the target product's specified values should be checked. An OLED display on the body shows torque level, rotation direction and battery status in real time.

Hardware details

  • Manual operation when electric torque falls short, with the mechanism rated to a maximum of 30 kgf・cm by hand
  • Optional S1 Angle Screw attachment (sold separately): all-steel gear train transmits 10 kgf・cm at 90°, one-click mounting
  • 52 bits in S2 steel at HRC60 hardness, including extended bits for deep holes, plus a magnetic bit holder
  • S1 Smart Case frame CNC-machined from aerospace-grade aluminum alloy
  • USB-C charging, full charge in about 70 minutes with a compatible power source, with an animated charging icon on the OLED

The maker describes the design as human-centered industrial design focused on grip, compactness and a minimal look. The pitch is aimed at modelers, RC hobbyists and electronics repairers alike: the tool assists with decisions, but the hand still drives the screw.
