Chillshark™

A portable chiller system designed to turn a standard bathtub or folding tub into a cold plunge.

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Cold plunging has gained a following among athletes and wellness enthusiasts, but it has typically required dedicated equipment and space. Chillshark™ takes a different approach: rather than supplying a tub, it is a cooling unit meant to work with the one you already have.

How it works

The system consists of a dedicated cooling unit that circulates water through a household bathtub or a simple tub, such as a folding portable model, chilling it as it goes. The maker says setup requires no tools; a power source and a tub are the only prerequisites.

According to the campaign, Chillshark™ can cool water to near 0°C, with the temperature adjustable to the user's preference. The maker claims the design shortens the lengthy cooldown typical of conventional chillers, reaching a target cold-water temperature within a few tens of minutes of startup.

Key features, per the maker

  • Mobile app integration for temperature monitoring and timer settings
  • Compact, lightweight body intended for use indoors or outdoors, from home to gym to campsite
  • Noise kept to a minimum, positioned as suitable for late-night use and apartments
  • Easily removable filter inside the unit for routine cleaning
  • Multiple sensors intended to prevent overcooling and malfunction

The maker also describes the unit as electrically efficient and pitches it at small gyms and relaxation facilities as well as individuals. On Kickstarter, the project reported more than 260 backers and over $350,000 raised, exceeding its goal by more than 20 times.
