GrilTi

A pure-titanium folding grill with three cooking zones, built to sit over campfires, stoves and rocks.

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Outdoor cooking often means a choice between heavy cookware and forgettable freeze-dried meals. GrilTi, developed by London-based septem studio and presented as a Kickstarter project, is pitched as a way around that trade-off: a folding grill made from pure titanium that, according to the maker, packs down to roughly the thickness of a book.

Why titanium

The maker says GrilTi withstands direct flame up to 800°C (1470°F) without deforming or breaking. Titanium is described as non-toxic, naturally antibacterial and food-safe, so no coatings are used, which the campaign frames as removing concerns about chemicals leaching at high heat. It is also said to resist warping, corrosion and cracking, and not to rust when left wet or stored in a damp pack.

Three zones on one surface

  • Grill grate zone: an open pattern that lets flame reach food directly for smoky sear marks on steak or chicken.
  • Sloped slot zone: fine slits that let fat drain away, which the maker says also helps vegetables cook without sticking.
  • Solid hot plate: a flat, closed surface for even heat, suited to eggs, pancakes or holding a small pot to boil water.

The idea, per the campaign, is to cook several things at once, such as steak on the grate, eggs on the plate and vegetables on the slots, from a single piece of kit.

Setup and care

Integrated folding legs mean no tools and no loose parts. The maker says they work on soil, rocks, around a campfire or over a camp stove, holding food at a suitable height above the heat, then fold flat for storage. Cleanup is described as a wipe with a cloth, with no scrubbing or strong detergent needed, and the uncoated grill is said to be dishwasher-safe. With heat and use, the surface may develop colourful tints or a light haze, a patina the maker says has no effect on performance.

The campaign also references smaller and larger versions, with the smaller suggested for solo thru-hiking and the larger for shared cooking in van life settings.
