Why it matters

Most spice grinders live on the kitchen counter. Milly is designed to leave it. The maker pitches it as a grinder small enough to ride on a keychain, so pepper, salt or a favorite spice blend can be ground fresh at a campsite, on a hike, while traveling or at a restaurant table.

Small body, metal build

According to the maker, the body is CNC-machined from anodized aluminum alloy, chosen for both appearance and durability. The weight is given as around 40 grams, and the overall size as roughly 6cm or less, light enough, the maker says, to carry on keys or a carabiner without it becoming a nuisance. Inside, Milly holds approximately 5ml of spice.

Ceramic grinding mechanism

The grinding element is ceramic rather than metal. The maker says this makes it less likely to affect aroma or flavor, and that ceramic resists wear over long-term use. The blade is described as easy to remove for cleaning.

  • Twist-style cap paired with a built-in spring mechanism for grinding
  • Key ring compatible, for clipping to a carabiner or bag
  • Removing the twist section opens the interior for refilling and cleaning
  • Approximately 5ml spice capacity in a body of about 6cm or less

On Kickstarter, the source reports, the project drew support exceeding three times its funding goal. The source also speculates about future color options, special editions and spice-brand collaborations, though none of these are confirmed.
