Editor’s view

Why it matters

Nitro cold brew owes its appeal to texture: a dense, creamy body and a settled head of foam, without milk or sugar. Nitropop Pro, a Kickstarter project, aims to bring that effect out of the café and onto the kitchen counter, or the campsite.

Nitrogen from thin air

The core of the design is a built-in nitrogen generator. The maker says it uses PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption), a process in which a special filter material selectively adsorbs oxygen from the air and lets nitrogen pass, yielding nitrogen at over 99.5% purity. The practical upshot, according to the campaign, is no bulky external gas cylinders and no nitrogen cartridges to buy.

That nitrogen is injected at 500kPa, which the maker says is enough to saturate cold brew thoroughly and build a thick, silky foam in a matter of seconds. The 500ml capacity is rated at 5 to 8 cups per batch.

Beyond coffee

The campaign positions Nitropop Pro as a tool for experimentation as much as for coffee: tea, cocktails, fruit infusions and non-alcoholic drinks such as kombucha are all listed as compatible.

  • One-touch operation
  • Automatic cleaning system, with all parts described as dishwasher-safe
  • 4000mAh built-in battery with USB-C charging for use away from an outlet
  • 500ml capacity, rated at 5 to 8 cups
  • 500kPa high-pressure nitrogen injection

With battery power and a compact body, the maker pitches the device for camping and picnics as well as home use, and suggests it could also suit small cafés or restaurants.
