Why it matters
Isolation among older adults is the problem Onorato AI sets out to address. Developed by Onorato, a startup based in Orlando, Florida, the device is pitched not as another reminder machine but as a conversational partner built around empathy, with the stated goal of helping seniors stay independent without being alone.
Reading the room
According to the maker, Onorato AI combines natural language processing with emotion recognition algorithms to interpret a user's words, facial expressions and tone of voice, then respond accordingly. Like a smart speaker, it stays on standby and begins responding as soon as it is spoken to. Physical controls are kept to a minimum, so interaction happens almost entirely through conversation, which the company says makes it approachable for people unfamiliar with technology.
Over time, the maker says, the device learns preferences and routines from daily conversations, including favorite topics, music and schedules, and uses them to suggest information or activities.
A link to family and care
- Status reports and notifications of health changes sent to remote family members and caregivers
- Voice recognition and emotion analysis sensors that, according to the maker, can flag possible signs of illness from shifts in vocal tone or speed
- Cloud-based storage and sharing of data, designed to allow coordination with medical professionals
- Privacy settings that let users control in detail how voice and emotion data are stored and used
The hardware is described as modern and compact, intended to sit unobtrusively in a living room or bedroom.
What comes next
Onorato says it is considering multilingual support, a cognitive support mode, interfaces adapted to age-related conditions, deeper ties with medical institutions, and possibly community features that would let users connect with one another. The company states that early development is complete and that prototype feedback has been positive, and that it aims to bring the product to market within 2025 if the Kickstarter project is successfully funded.
