PERFECT Cutlery Sets
Black-finished cutlery from Tsubame-Sanjo, shaped around scooping, twirling and cutting with less fuss
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Most cutlery is designed to look right on the table. PERFECT Cutlery Sets starts from a different question: why is it so hard to get the last bite of curry onto a spoon, or keep pasta wound on a fork on its way to your mouth? The set's spoon, fork and knife are each shaped, according to the maker, to address those small everyday frictions.
A narrower, thinner spoon
The centrepiece Perfect Spoon measures approximately 17cm long, about 3cm at its widest and weighs around 33.6g. The maker says its elongated profile is narrower than a typical spoon, so you shouldn't need to open your mouth unusually wide. The bowl is long where it meets food and hand-finished thin at the tip, which the campaign says helps loose dishes like fried rice and chunks of curry slide on more easily, while keeping the metal less noticeable in the mouth. It is deliberately on the small side, intended to encourage moderate bites rather than heaped spoonfuls; the maker frames this as a design choice, not a health claim. For bigger appetites, a larger spoon is offered at approximately 20cm long, about 3cm wide and around 42.9g.
A fork built for twirling, and a matching knife
The Perfect Fork is approximately 19cm long, about 2cm wide and weighs around 40.5g. Of its three tines, the outer two flare slightly outward, which the maker says helps noodles grip and stay bundled as you twist, rather than trailing off the fork. A table knife, the Perfect Knife, completes the collection so the same black finish carries across the whole place setting; the source does not list its dimensions.
Finish and manufacturing
- Stainless steel with a black oxide colouring treatment, followed by blasting for a satin-like surface
- Not a painted coating, so according to the maker it should not peel the way paint can
- Made by a cutlery specialist in Tsubame-Sanjo, the Japanese metalworking region
- Dishwasher safe, including commercial dishwashers, per the maker
The pitch is cutlery meant for daily use rather than special occasions: a soft-sheen black intended to suit both white plates and dark tableware, with shapes tuned to how people actually eat.
