Why it matters

Refrigerators are not as clean an environment as they seem: bacteria and odor-causing substances circulate inside, and that is one reason fruit and vegetables spoil quickly. Vitesy's Shelfy Lite is designed to address this from inside the fridge, with a slim body the maker says fits easily into any refrigerator.

What it claims to do

The maker says Shelfy Lite uses proprietary technology to decompose odor-causing substances and inhibit bacterial growth. The campaign gives an example: vegetables that would spoil within a few days in an ordinary fridge can, it claims, stay fresh for more than a week with Shelfy Lite. The pitch is that longer-lasting food means less waste and fewer shopping trips.

Design and everyday use

  • Three modes selectable with a single touch, with an LED indicator showing status
  • USB-C charging, with up to 3 weeks of operation per charge, according to the maker
  • No replaceable filter: a nano-coating is said to resist dirt, and the part can be cleaned by rinsing with water
  • Available in three colors: Space Gray, Lime and Peach

Built to last, by design

Vitesy positions Shelfy Lite as a sustainable product. The maker cites a product lifespan of at least 10 years, a modular design intended to make part replacement and maintenance straightforward, and a construction that can be disassembled and uses recyclable materials for end-of-life handling. The team behind it has, according to the source, completed four successful Kickstarter projects previously.
