Why it matters
Sleep audio has a familiar trade-off: earbuds can be hard on the ears through a night of side sleeping, while a bedside speaker spreads sound to anyone else in the room. SluTune Q2, presented as a Kickstarter project, is the maker's attempt to sit between the two. It follows the SluTune Q1, and according to the maker it was shaped by feedback from Q1 users. A companion model, Q1 Pro, keeps the original's ultra-thin profile with revised tuning and structural changes, and is offered only in blue.
Built to disappear under a pillow
The headline figure is thickness: 11mm. The maker compares this with AirPods Pro 3 at 27mm and calls the Q2 roughly 60% slimmer. The idea is that side sleepers and people with sensitive ear canals can slip it inside a pillow, where it should stay out of the way as they turn during the night. The maker also says a new TPU surface treatment improves abrasion, stain and moisture resistance compared with the previous generation, which should help it stay clean with regular use.
Two sound systems, one slim chassis
The Q2 combines a bone conduction transducer with a built-in air-conduction speaker. In bone conduction mode, sound is carried through gentle vibration rather than piped into the ear or spread through the room. Speaker mode is aimed at open spaces, including outdoors. The maker says fitting both into 11mm meant rethinking the internal layout: the vibration unit and speaker are physically separated and acoustically decoupled, with a layered internal structure, dedicated acoustic chambers and independent signal paths meant to limit interference, resonance distortion and signal crossover.
Output has also increased. The maker cites a new 2W power configuration with a copper-clad aluminum voice coil, compared with 0.05W on the previous model, along with a patented acoustic chamber it credits with deep bass, clear highs, low distortion, wide frequency response, high dynamic range and balanced tuning.
Practical details
- Low-strength magnetic base for attaching to metal surfaces such as bed frames, desk edges or tent poles
- Direct audio playback from a MicroSD card, so a phone can stay off the nightstand
- 2-hour automatic power-off timer
- Integrated hook system for backpack straps, belt loops and gear loops
- Bluetooth 5.4 with a stated range of up to 10 meters
- Compatibility with HarmonyOS, Android and iOS devices
The MicroSD option stands out for bedtime use: playing audio straight from a card means notifications and phone battery drain stay out of the picture. The hook system and speaker mode extend the Q2 beyond the bedroom, to hiking and camping.
