Titaner Color-Ti Double-Wall Cup

A double-wall titanium cup whose colors come from nano-scale oxide films rather than paint

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Titaner says the Color-Ti Double-Wall Cup draws on 20 years of experience researching, developing and manufacturing titanium products. The premise is simple: a cup made from a material inert enough that it shouldn't interfere with whatever you pour into it.

Material first

The cup is made from medical-grade pure titanium. The maker points to titanium's biocompatibility and near-inert nature, claiming it does not react with drinks, resists acidic and alkaline liquids, and does not leach harmful substances; the campaign adds that it can withstand corrosion by concentrated sulfuric acid under laboratory conditions. Titaner also says that, unlike some cheaper titanium goods that may carry residual iron or polishing and saponification chemicals, each cup goes through a strict production process and ultrasonic cleaning before shipping to meet food-grade standards.

Built around the hand and lip

  • Weight: 80g per cup, which the maker says is about 40–45% lighter than a stainless steel cup of the same size
  • Capacity: 270ml
  • Double-wall construction that the maker says keeps the exterior from getting too hot and prevents condensation running down the outside, while improving heat and cold retention over single-wall cups
  • Ergonomically curved body intended to be easy to grip regardless of hand size
  • Rim finished with fine welding and precision polishing for a rounded, smooth feel

Color without coatings

The cup's colors are produced by repeated high-temperature firing in a vacuum furnace with precise voltage and current control, forming a nano-scale oxide film on the titanium. Because the color comes from light interference and diffraction rather than chemical paint, the maker describes it as completely non-toxic and resistant to fading or peeling, and says slight variations in film thickness make each cup unique. Designs named in the campaign include Ocean Waves, Strawberry Thief (evoking William Morris), Sunflowers (inspired by Van Gogh) and Sunlit Serenity Peak, developed by designers working with titanium coloring artisans.

A long-lived alternative to paper cups

Titaner frames the cup as a sustainable choice, citing figures that producing one ton of paper cups requires 20 trees grown for more than 10 years, 2.5 tons of fresh water and 2000kWh of electricity, and that around 86% of paper cups end up landfilled or incinerated because of their polyethylene lining. The maker says the titanium cup won't rust, handles daily use and light drops, and can last for decades. Titaner also states it has completed more than 100 Kickstarter campaigns with a 100% on-time delivery record.
