TSUKI

A Japanese-made Damascus knife line pairing VG-10 stainless steel with a moonlit, hammered tsuchime finish

Editor’s view

Why it matters

A knife is the first tool most cooks reach for, and a dull one turns small tasks into friction: tomato skins that crush instead of slicing, onions with ragged cut faces, chicken skin that snags. TSUKI pitches itself as the antidote, blending Japanese knifemaking sensibility with a quiet design language inspired by the moon.

A blade that catches light like the lunar surface

The blade face carries a tsuchime Damascus finish. Tsuchime refers to a hammered texture of small, dimpled impressions in the metal; layered over Damascus patterning, it is meant to give the steel depth, with shadows that shift as the light changes. The maker positions the look as restrained rather than showy, intended to sit comfortably in a home kitchen.

VG-10 stainless at the core

According to the maker, TSUKI uses VG-10 stainless steel, a widely used knife steel known for balancing sharpness with ease of care. The campaign describes blades that enter ripe tomato skin without pressing, cut meat without tearing fibers and leave clean faces on finely sliced scallions and aromatics, along with less wrist and shoulder strain from forcing a dull edge.

Two shapes, two colors

  • Santoku, 17cm blade: a Japanese all-purpose shape for meat, fish and vegetables, sized by the maker as manageable on a cutting board without feeling short
  • Petty knife, 13cm blade: a small knife for peeling fruit, cutting aromatics, decorative vegetable cuts and quick prep
  • Colors: black, described as crisp and professional, and white, described as soft and clean

The campaign frames the pair as complementary: the santoku for rhythmic work on larger ingredients, the petty knife for detail and finishing. Across both colors, the moon motif carries through, with black likened to the moon in a night sky and white to moonlight itself.
