Aceii One

An AI tennis robot that tracks your swing and moves around the court to return balls like a rally partner

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Conventional ball machines fire balls to preset spots and do not react to what the player does. Aceii One is pitched differently: the maker says it reads a player's swing speed, contact point and spin in real time, then repositions itself and adjusts its launch angle so the exchange feels closer to rallying with a person. A five-level rally mode is intended to let beginners start slowly and step up as they improve, without score pressure.

According to the maker, the team behind it includes engineers, designers and sports scientists with more than 10 years of robotics and intelligent-systems R&D experience, among them people who previously worked at DJI and KUKA, and holders of master's and doctoral degrees from universities in the US, UK and Australia.

Hardware, as described by the maker

  • Vertical Stereo Vision+: a vertically stacked pair of cameras that tracks the ball and player by vision alone at up to 30 meters, with no extra sensors or wearables, and follows serves at 130 mph (about 209 km/h)
  • Two-stage independent acceleration: a first stage said to cut feed time by 50% and a motor-boosted second stage, claimed to launch balls 20% faster than a standard two-wheel system at intervals as short as 0.5 seconds
  • Differential drive with 3.5 m/s² acceleration, moving from center court to the sideline in 1.2 seconds, plus an automotive-style ABS for controlled starts and stops
  • Instant Safeguard: AI sensing that monitors surroundings at millisecond scale and pauses feeding and movement if an obstacle enters the court or the player moves unexpectedly
  • Folding legs and a suitcase-style form factor intended to fit in a car trunk

Game modes, drills and coaching

The maker describes three competitive modes developed from input by coaches, pros and enthusiasts and analysis of thousands of match models. Ranking mode uses NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) as a baseline and awards stars for wins to unlock higher tiers. Challenge mode unlocks achievements for goals such as hitting a court corner accurately 10 times in a row. Battle mode builds a personalized player profile from your hitting data, which friends can play against; downloadable profiles of well-known pros and cross-court matches against a shared virtual opponent are also described.

Through the ACEII APP, users can set ball speed, launch angle, direction, spin, interval and hitting width, which the maker says allows more than a thousand unique drills, alongside match-scenario drills, skill-specific drills and presets. Coaching programs developed with coaches and tennis academies include video lessons organized by NTRP level; the app assesses level by direct input or a short test, recommends lessons, has users practice with the robot, then gives feedback such as a swing being slightly early or a low contact point. Per-shot data on placement, spin, speed and consistency is logged and charted in the app.

The dual cameras can also capture highlight clips automatically for sharing, and custom drills can be shared with other users. A separate Pickleball Edition, tuned for that sport's ball size, trajectory, speed and bounce, is in development; the maker notes it is a different product from the standard edition.
