Why it matters
AIVELA, founded in California in 2024, describes the Ring Pro as the "world's first AI-powered smart ring." According to the company, its team includes engineers and scientists from MIT, Harvard and Cornell. The name joins "AI" with Vela, the constellation once used by sea explorers, a nod to the ring's intended role as a guide for health and daily life.
Sensors and health data
The maker says the ring runs on an Ambiq Apollo 4 SoC paired with sensors from Bosch and PixArt, tracking heart rate, SpO2, body temperature and movement. It can store up to 4 weeks of health history, which AIVELA positions as useful for spotting longer-term trends. For sleep, the company says combining these signals lets the ring estimate REM, light and deep sleep stages and highlight factors affecting sleep quality. The ring is also said to estimate internal recovery and energy levels from overnight signals and daily activity, flag rising stress using HRV, and remind wearers after long periods of inactivity.
Gestures as a remote
The more unusual feature is an Optical Finger Navigation (OFN) sensor. According to the maker, small finger movements can scroll a phone screen, play or pause music on earbuds, or trigger a camera shutter. Users can also assign custom actions, such as sending a preset message by drawing a heart or switching on smart lights with a specific gesture.
Dave and Mira
Two AI advisors, Dave and Mira, each with a distinct personality, deliver daily health guidance in a 2-minute podcast-style format based on the wearer's data. AIVELA says the advice draws on guidelines from the ACSM, AASM, AHA and WHO and was developed with university professors in medicine and sports science.
