Why it matters

Rather than a fixed security camera, ata05 is a small mobile robot you drive from a phone app, streaming live video and enabling two-way calls from wherever it rolls. According to the maker, it is built to reach spots a static camera cannot, from a carpeted living room to a low-threshold entryway.

Movement and control

The maker says ata05 can turn 360 degrees in tight corners and handle uneven surfaces, with a sprint mode rated at up to 55cm per hour as stated in the source. The app offers 16-direction control, and with WiFi 6 dual-band (5G/2.4G) support the company claims a response time of 0.3 seconds under ideal network conditions. In standard mode it is said to run at 48 decibels.

Camera and sensing

  • 1080P HD video with HDR and a 95-degree distortion-free wide field of view, per the maker
  • 30-degree adjustable pitch and an optical glass lens described as resisting fingerprints and reflections
  • Automatic switching between visible-light fill (color night vision) and infrared fill (black-and-white night vision)
  • Sentry mode that, according to the maker, sends an app alert and starts recording when it detects motion at a distance of 3 meters or more
  • Local recording to a micro SD card with scheduling; the maker says no cloud or subscription fees are required

Battery, sharing and expansion

A 5200mAh battery is rated by the maker for up to 150 days of standby and up to 12 hours of continuous use under ideal network conditions, with up to 120 days of standby in sentry mode in low-traffic scenarios. The app supports multiple simultaneous users, two-way audio, pet sound effects and a built-in shared photo album.

A top-mounted expansion port is intended for add-on modules; planned options listed by the maker include a smart pet interaction module, an AI chat feature for children and older people, and camera upgrades, along with a plan to open-source the platform for DIY makers in the future. The grey-finished design, with a nod to British Blue, is said to have received a Gold award at the 2025 MUSE Design Awards in the smart home, user experience and pet categories. ata05 is presented as a Kickstarter project.
