BITZ
A 4.8 cm keychain knife with a tungsten alloy blade, magnetic quick release and replaceable blades
Editor’s view
Why it matters
At just 4.8 cm long, BITZ is small enough, the maker says, to sit on a keychain, hang from a necklace or zip pendant, or disappear into a coin pocket. The pitch is simple: a blade that is always on hand, without the bulk of a conventional pocket knife.
BITZ is a Kickstarter project from YSMART LONDON, which according to the campaign has launched 14 projects, 8 of them successfully.
Blade and body
The blade is made from tungsten alloy, which the maker describes as one of the hardest and most expensive modern knife materials, citing a Mohs hardness of 9. YSMART LONDON claims this gives strong edge retention and toughness, and notes the material is also used in surgical instruments and industrial cutters. Blades are replaceable, so a dulled edge can be swapped rather than resharpened.
The body is CNC-machined in either Grade 5 titanium or brass. The maker positions BITZ-Ti as the lighter, corrosion-resistant option for daily use, while BITZ-Brass is heavier and develops a warm patina over time.
Magnetic quick release and finishes
A connector with a neodymium magnet lets the knife be pulled from its keychain base with one hand, according to the campaign, and the same magnetic force holds it securely when stowed, which the maker says reduces the risk of losing it.
- Frost: an icy, crystalline texture
- Core: a plain, minimal metal finish
- Hive: a bold hexagonal pattern with a tactical look
- Spine: woven-style lines inspired by nature and structure
These four laser-etched designs are offered across the range. YSMART LONDON also says it plans to fine-tune the design for mass production and is working with a specialist fulfillment company for international shipping, though import taxes and duties vary by country.
