BLACKJACK™

From the outside, BLACKJACK™ looks like a pared-back card holder. According to Bomber & Company, the US outdoor gear design firm behind it, the slim body also integrates a small knife, a bottle opener, a pry bar and a flathead that doubles as a screwdriver, all aimed at everyday carry (EDC) in the city as much as outdoors.

Steel and blade

The maker says both the blade and the body are made from 440 carbon stainless steel, rated at 58–60 HRC on the Rockwell scale, a material Bomber & Company states it has used across its knife line for more than 10 years. The blade carries small perforations which, according to the maker, reduce friction while cutting and help keep food from sticking. Suggested tasks range from opening packages and cutting string to slicing fruit and breaking down cardboard.

Wallet and tools

• Money clip holding up to 3 credit cards or 10 banknotes, per the maker
• Pry bar for jobs such as opening paint cans or pulling nails and staples
• Flathead for tightening small screws
• Bottle opener

The maker lists the weight as about 30g (also given as approximately 1 ounce, or 31g) and the overall length as 8.5cm, and says it is sized to slip into a jeans pocket, backpack, wallet or key case.

Background

Bomber & Company states that all eight of its previous Kickstarter projects were successful, many delivering ahead of schedule. The company also describes recycled, lightweight packaging and an aim for a low carbon footprint from manufacturing through distribution. Because BLACKJACK™ contains a blade, owners are responsible for using it in line with local laws.
