COMANDI Mini Wrench

The COMANDI Mini Wrench comes from COMANDI, a Hong Kong-based company building everyday carry (EDC) products, and was presented as a Kickstarter project. The idea is familiar to EDC fans: a keychain-sized body that carries far more functions than its size suggests. The maker lists eight, built around an adjustable wrench.

The wrench at the core

Instead of swapping tools for different nuts and bolts, the jaw width is set with a sliding roller mechanism. COMANDI says the roller carries a CNC-machined thread pattern to reduce slipping and improve fine adjustment, and quotes an opening of approximately 20mm. Open the jaws and the wrench also doubles as an angle-adjustable phone stand, according to the maker.

What else is on board

• Pry bar and nail puller using leverage, with a flat edge that works as a flat-head screwdriver and a V-shaped notch at the tip
• Bottle opener
• CNC-engraved scale with a 20mm range
• Side slot holding a 1/6-inch (approx. 4mm) driver bit, used with a front hex socket and held by a built-in magnet
• 6.5mm hex hole on the lower body
• Tungsten steel window breaker on the top
• Rope hole for a lanyard, keyring or bag

Materials and carry

The body is Gr5 titanium, which the maker credits with high strength, corrosion resistance against humidity, salt, acids and alkalis, and stable mechanical properties across a wide temperature range. Weight is stated at 21.6g. Two tritium slots accept tritium tubes, offered in five colours, to help locate the tool in the dark; glow-in-the-dark luminous vials are listed as an alternative option.

COMANDI also offers custom engraving of text, with a choice of three fonts specified through a follow-up survey. The company says it has in-house designers, engineers and CNC machinery, and positions the tool's durable design and Gr5 titanium as ways to reduce waste.
