CycleClick
A chain-mounted bike power meter that clips on in 30 seconds without tools and moves between bikes.
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Most power meters live in the crank, pedals or hub, which typically means tools, disassembly, calibration and a device effectively married to one bike. CycleClick takes a different route: it reads power from the chain itself. The maker says that once a base is fixed to the bike, the unit simply clips onto the chain, with no changes to the drivetrain, and that installation takes 30 seconds.
Measuring at the chain
According to the maker, the core is a precisely engineered metal channel with internal ribs. Chain rollers roll over these ribs, and the force they apply flexes the channel slightly; a full-bridge strain gauge detects that deflection. A chain speed sensor tracks chain velocity via the rollers, and an onboard algorithm combines the two using power = torque × chain speed. The maker states the measuring channel never touches the chain's side plates, only the rollers, and that this rolling contact keeps friction and noise low.
The maker claims ±1% accuracy, with temperature compensation that detects temperature changes in real time and calibrates automatically to counter sensor drift. Beyond power, the device is said to report cadence, torque and balance, and to estimate calorie burn from total work in kilojoules rather than from heart rate.
Key specifications (per the maker)
- Tool-free installation in 30 seconds; swappable between bikes
- Compatible with chain-driven road, gravel and mountain bikes; not compatible with SRAM Flattop chains
- Claimed accuracy: ±1%, with temperature compensation
- Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.0+, pairing with up to 3 devices simultaneously
- Works with Zwift, TrainingPeaks and the BikeOnIQ app
- IP67 dust and water resistance; electronics fully sealed in epoxy resin
- Weight: 40g (1.41 oz)
- Over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates via the app
Left/right power balance is an optional feature requiring an additional external sensor offered as an add-on through the campaign. The maker describes it as experimental and in development, to be delivered via OTA update after the main unit ships.
