Why it matters
Ezsharp 2.0 follows the Ezsharp Knife campaign held in December 2024. The maker says the team took feedback from customers and enthusiasts on Ezsharp 1.0, looked at everyday use, and revised both performance and design for this second version. It is presented as a Kickstarter project from Backing Tech, which the source credits with five previous successful knife projects.
Swap, don't sharpen
The central idea is replacing a dull blade rather than sharpening it, avoiding sharpening tools and the gradual loss of steel that comes with regrinding. According to the maker, a button press releases the blade so a fresh one can go in, and the release mechanism is designed to keep fingers away from the edge during changes. The knife is said to accept #18, #20, #21, #22, #23 and #24 scalpel blades, and a dual blade storage feature holds two different blades so users can switch between tasks such as cutting paper or rope, carving, or opening boxes.
Frame and handling
- Frame made of GR5 titanium, which the maker describes as light, strong and resistant to rust and corrosion
- Handle longer than the previous model, with an ergonomic shape for precision and heavier work
- One-handed opening with a frame lock to hold the blade in use
- Folded length of 100mm
- Described as TSA compliant for carry-on travel with the blade removed
The maker also frames the titanium build as a sustainability point: a long-lasting frame should mean fewer replacement knives. An "Adventurer's Edition" is planned, using titanium finishing techniques for iridescent or artistic textures and patterns, and is said to be intended exclusively for Kickstarter backers.
