Hanboost T1
A bag-sized blue diode laser engraver that runs on USB-C power and is controlled from a smartphone
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Desktop laser engravers tend to be heavy, tied to a wall outlet and dependent on a laptop and a cable run. Hanboost T1 is pitched as the opposite: a compact unit meant to slip into an everyday backpack or tote alongside everything else, for use at a café table, a campsite, a friend's place or a craft-market booth.
Power and control
The maker says the T1 is fully compliant with general-purpose USB-C power and runs stably from off-the-shelf power banks and USB chargers, so a single USB-C cable is the only power accessory it needs. Control is wireless: the campaign states the engraver pairs with a dedicated smartphone app in 3 steps, and that loading designs, resizing, adjusting output and running jobs can all be handled from the phone.
For users who prefer desktop tools, the T1 is described as fully compatible with both LightBurn and LaserGRBL. The maker also says owners receive more than 1000 ready-made engraving design files at no charge, including name templates, illustrations, symbols and patterns.
Laser and materials
According to the maker, the blue diode laser reaches a 0.05mm engraving resolution, and blue light is absorbed more readily than comparable red lasers by organic materials such as leather, wood and leaves, producing higher-contrast marks. Materials mentioned include thin leaves, soft leather, aluminum cards and thin wooden plates, along with phone cases and wooden photo frames.
The laser module is interchangeable, with a standard 500mW head for delicate lettering and a 1.6W head for thicker wood and denser materials. A graduated vertical focus mechanism is meant to cut down on trial burns. A separately offered height-extension stand allows work on thicker objects such as wooden boxes, frames and 3D-printed bases, and temporarily disabling tilt protection in the supported software is said to allow angled or vertical engraving on large fixed objects.
Safety and design
- Fully enclosed body with an OD4+ rated viewing window, which the maker says makes protective goggles unnecessary
- Emergency cutoff that shuts the laser down if the unit tilts 15 degrees
- Active cooling fan intended to sustain output during long sessions
- Smart limit switches to prevent collisions of internal moving parts
- Removable, washable color covers in orange, red and green
