Why it matters

Food printers have traditionally been bulky machines that demand counter space and some expertise. iKoffy EdiBot aims to shrink the idea into something that fits in a bag. According to the maker, it weighs 5.8 ounces (about 165 grams) and can print names, photos or patterns directly onto latte foam, cookies, macarons and cakes, whether at a café counter, a campsite or a wedding reception.

The maker says EdiBot prints in full color at 1200 DPI, which it claims is four times the resolution of standard products on the market, and that it has been specifically optimized to print stably on latte foam. The print width is 0.92 inches (about 23.3mm) per pass, with a maximum print length of 1.2 meters for ribbons or wristbands. A multi-line printing mode splits larger designs across several passes.

Beyond food, the campaign lists absorbent materials such as gift boxes, cards, ribbons, fabric and napkins. It also mentions temporary printing on skin for event body art, noting that such prints may fade with water or sweat.

Ink, cartridges and the app

  • FDA-certified food-safe ink made from food-grade ingredients including glycerin, water and FD&C-approved colorants, described as vegan and kosher compliant, with plant-derived fatty acids as emulsifiers
  • Patented NanoJet™ cartridge that the maker says uses 30% less ink than previous models and delivers up to 30,000 prints per cartridge
  • Cartridge bottom cap intended to prevent clogging and drying between uses
  • AI image generation in the iKoffy app: type a keyword such as "starry night" or "love heart" to produce a printable design, alongside templates and photo upload and editing

Who it is for

The project pitches EdiBot to cafés and bakeries as a way to offer on-the-spot personalized designs, citing data suggesting sales could rise by as much as 300%; the source does not explain where that figure comes from. For home use, the maker suggests birthdays, holidays, characters on children's lunches and travel photos printed on cookies.
