Why it matters
Loona Deskmate is designed to sit on a desk and act as what its maker calls an AI coworker. Instead of typing structured prompts or hopping between apps, the idea is that you speak naturally, something like asking it to set up a meeting or draft an email from a document, and Loona works out the intent and carries out the steps.
Tasks, not just answers
According to the maker, Loona connects with more than 50 apps, including Gmail, Slack, Calendar and Zoom. A single request such as proposing a meeting time to a client and emailing an agenda is meant to trigger the whole chain: checking schedules, finding open slots and drafting the message, with mid-course edits like a changed time applied on the fly. Hovering the mouse over a file or passage gives Loona the context, so instructions like sharing a file to a Slack channel or summarizing text are said to work without copy-and-paste or screenshots.
The maker says Loona combines audio and visual cues, reading eye and lip movement to tell whether you are addressing it or someone else, and cites an average response time of 0.5 seconds. Under the hood, the campaign describes a real-time decision model that fuses voice, vision and input signals, plus a task-oriented agent stack meant to juggle several work threads and adapt when instructions change.
Movement generated in real time
The robot's head tilts, eye animations and small reactions are not pre-recorded, according to the maker, but generated in real time by an AI model running on the user's smartphone, so responses vary even in similar situations. Three brushless servo motors provide yaw, pitch and roll, and the maker describes the motion as quiet. Examples given include nudging you to take a break after long stretches of focus and nodding while you talk.
Privacy and hardware
Core perception runs on-device, the maker says: facial features, emotional cues and attention data are processed on the phone's processor and not uploaded to the cloud, with only the necessary commands sent out for app integrations. Learned habits and preferences are also stored on the device. Because AI processing happens on the phone, no separate computer is required.
- Included GaN charging station that the maker says can charge two MacBooks, phones and other peripherals simultaneously
- Three USB-C ports and one USB-A port
- Automatic charging when an iPhone 12 or later is placed on the station
- Core features usable without a paid subscription; paid plans use credits for heavier tasks such as deeper web research and document or presentation generation
- Developer kit that opens Loona as a platform for external AI agents, custom workflows and user-built tools
