Why it matters
Luniviss is pitched at three overlapping uses: outdoor activities such as camping and night fishing, home security, and wildlife observation. According to the maker, its infrared imaging and proprietary image-processing algorithm let it render subjects from 0.5m to 800m away in complete darkness, with range extending further where some ambient light, such as street lighting, is present.
Seeing and recording at night
The infrared illuminator has 7 brightness levels, which the maker says helps avoid glare and reflection on close subjects, while the display offers 5 brightness levels to reduce eye strain during long sessions. Distant detail is handled by 10x digital zoom combined with manual focus. Stills are captured at 2 megapixels (1600×1200) and video at Full HD (1080P), each triggered by a dedicated button, and results can be reviewed on a 3-inch IPS display.
Four ways to connect
- PC camera mode: streams the live image to a computer over USB
- Storage mode: exposes the inserted microSD card as external storage for copying, deleting and formatting
- Video mode: runs the camera on external USB power, such as a mobile battery or AC adapter, for extended observation
- Android OTG: connects to OTG-compatible Android phones via a dedicated cable to view and share footage
Build, power and storage
The maker lists a weight of about 300g and dimensions of 120×150×70mm. A 1/4-inch mount on the base accepts standard tripods and selfie sticks, a cold shoe on top accommodates external lights or microphones, and a side strap hole takes the included strap. Operation runs through four buttons: power, shoot/record, zoom, and light/display adjustment.
A built-in 2000mAh battery is rated for up to about 3 hours of continuous use on a full charge, extendable via video mode on external power. The camera supports microSD cards up to 128GB; the maker estimates roughly 10 hours of Full HD video on a 128GB card. No card is included. The interface supports 14 languages, including Japanese.
