Why it matters

Most pocket screwdrivers are built to be forgotten in a drawer. Logical Carry's MAGICDRIVE takes the opposite approach: according to the maker, it is meant to be as satisfying to handle as it is useful, aimed at EDC enthusiasts, makers, engineers and anyone who likes fixing things, from loose eyeglass screws to light workshop jobs.

Machined, not molded

The maker says the ratchet mechanism uses no injection-molded or stamped parts; titanium and brass components are CNC-cut to micron-level precision and assembled, which it claims delivers a consistent click, efficient torque transfer and resistance to wear-induced play over time. The grip knurling is also cut groove by groove on a CNC machine rather than rolled, which Logical Carry says produces even spacing and depth and a softer feel in the hand.

Two bit sizes, three angles

A magnetic modular system lets the user swap between a 1/4-inch (6.35mm) standard bit holder and a 4mm precision bit holder without tools. The 6.35mm holder accepts common bit types such as Phillips, flathead, Torx and hex, and is said to work with existing 1/4-inch extension bars and adapters. The 4mm holder deliberately omits the ratchet, favoring fingertip control for glasses, small electronics, cameras, watches and keyboards. The magnets are mechanically sealed between two CNC-machined caps rather than relying on adhesive alone.

The body folds to 0, 45 and 90 degrees. According to the maker, the 90-degree mode generates up to 7.9Nm of torque, measured with dedicated torque equipment using the 6.35mm bit holder.

  • Grade 5 titanium body with a brass spinner core that develops a patina; a full-titanium version is offered as an option
  • Balanced, quiet fidget spinner function
  • Three tritium slots in the spinner for visibility in the dark
  • Planned future modules sharing a 4mm hex interface: a Forever Pen module, a pen knife holder module and an aluminum bit holder module with a 6cm mini ruler and bit storage
  • Maker-described safety features: an over-tightening prevention structure and a module anti-drop mechanism with a physical lock

The result, as Logical Carry frames it, is a driver that balances function with tactile pleasure and design, and one that becomes more personal as the brass ages and the module system expands.
