NaviCore
A 44.9g Gr5 titanium compass tool that adds a 3x magnifier, bubble level and pry bar to the dial
Editor’s view
Why it matters
NaviCore is pitched as a modular outdoor tool rather than a plain compass. The maker builds it around a Gr5 titanium body, an industrial alloy chosen for its balance of strength and low weight, and puts the total at 44.9g, light enough, it says, to work as an everyday-carry piece as well as trail gear.
The compass
The dial uses a 360-degree scale divided into 5-degree increments, which the maker says keeps operating error within 5 degrees. The capsule is filled with a special oil intended to damp needle movement from vibration, impacts or wind, and the lettered scale is designed for legibility in backlight or dim forest conditions. The compass module is replaceable via a simple mounting structure, and the developer offers two dial styles, for example a simpler face for day hikes and a more detailed scale for longer expeditions.
Built-in tools
- Quick-detach carabiner: an integrated snap design the maker says attaches to a backpack, belt or MOLLE system in under a second
- Survival magnifier: high-purity optical glass on the back, rated at 3x, for reading contour lines and small print or focusing sunlight to light tinder
- Bubble level: described as high-sensitivity, for pitching tents, mapping or setting up camera gear
- Pry bar: for pulling nails, opening cans and breaking down boxes, with a flat edge that can stand in for a flathead screwdriver
Low-light options and personalization
The body has three tritium slots. Tritium tubes are offered as add-ons in green, purple, yellow, blue and red, glowing without external power. As a lower-cost alternative, the campaign also lists photoluminescent vials that charge under bright light and glow for a limited time depending on how much light they absorb. Custom engraving is available as a separate purchase, with a choice of three fonts and the text specified later through a survey.
On durability, the maker points to Gr5 titanium's corrosion resistance against humidity, salt spray, acids and alkalis, its strength under torque and pressure, and its ability to retain mechanical properties across hot and cold conditions.
