Why it matters

Ultrasonic cutters have long been associated with industrial and medical work. HOZO Design. Co. is trying to bring the technique to the workbench with NeoBlade, a cordless tool the company frames around one idea: "the world's smallest ultrasonic cutter," giving users the freedom to cut without limits. That size claim is the maker's own.

The pitch targets a familiar frustration. According to the maker, conventional ultrasonic cutters and rotary tools can feel uncertain on fine details and delicate materials, particularly when trimming intricate 3D prints or tackling ambitious DIY projects.

How it cuts

The blade vibrates at 40kHz, which the maker says allows fine, smooth cuts through material, with complex shapes and delicate stock becoming easier to handle. An automatic power adjustment feature is said to deliver the appropriate power for each material, so soft resin, hard wood and plastic can all be cut with minimal force and consistent results.

A built-in turbo fan draws air through side vents to keep the blade cool. HOZO Design. Co. says this keeps the tool comfortable in the hand and contributes to clean, smooth cut surfaces.

Power, safety and accessories

  • Swappable batteries, intended to minimise downtime during long sessions
  • TurboDock charging station, which the maker says fast-charges two devices and batteries simultaneously in 30 minutes
  • Child lock to prevent accidental operation
  • Power-off by rotating the battery 90° counterclockwise
  • Cap that stores the blade safely and keeps the screwdriver needed for blade changes close at hand
  • NeoCutting Mat, made with what the maker calls next-generation nano materials, claimed to last 3 times longer than a standard cutting mat

HOZO Design. Co. has run previous Kickstarter projects and says it pays attention to environmentally conscious design and factory waste handling, though the source gives no specifics on either.
