NETUM P808
An ink-free A4 portable printer that pairs a carbon ribbon with plain paper, plus built-in four-language OCR
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Most portable printers rely on thermal paper, which tends to fade and is poorly suited to documents that need to be kept. The NETUM P808 takes a different route: the maker says its thermal-transfer carbon ribbon prints onto standard A4 copy paper, substantially reducing fading, thinning and smudging over time. That positions it for contracts, applications and records printed away from the office. The maker also lists double-sided printing support, and notes that using plain paper removes the need to buy and stock special media.
Print quality and modes
Print resolution is stated as 300DPI, which the maker says is enough for fine contract clauses, thin drawing lines and small figures in charts. Alongside the carbon ribbon mode, there is a single-sided mode for thermal paper. Switching depends on whether the ribbon is installed: plain paper always requires the carbon (thermal-transfer) ribbon, thermal paper does not, and the app is said to display guidance on this.
OCR and the Netum ScanPrint app
The maker describes built-in OCR covering Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean, converting photographed documents into editable text. For Japanese, it is said to automatically detect vertical and horizontal layouts, which matters for the vertical-format contracts still common in Japan. A further feature is claimed to strip handwritten notes, memos and highlighter lines, leaving data closer to the clean original. Everything runs through the Netum ScanPrint smartphone app, which handles capture, recognition, editing and printing, and includes a template library covering study formats, handwriting practice, memos and doodles, stickers and various business forms.
