NexTool

The pitch behind NexTool is familiar to anyone who carries gear daily: the moment a small repair is needed is usually the moment no tools are at hand. This Kickstarter project answers with a rectangular, pocketable body that, according to the maker, integrates ten functions while weighing just 112g.

What folds out

• Magnetic 1/4-inch bit driver compatible with standard 1/4-inch hex bits, plus a magnetic storage slot hidden in the folding wrench section for a spare 6mm bit
• Quick-swap blade that takes common scalpel blades (No.18, 19, 20, 21, 23, B23, 24, 25A, 26), changeable without tools in 5 seconds, the maker says
• Dual-grit file that doubles as a bottle opener and flathead driver, described as a 4-in-1 tool
• Aircraft-grade saw blade the maker says can cut branches up to 1.5 inches thick, paracord, straps and vines
• Hidden window glass breaker intended for emergencies such as car accidents

Material and carry

The frame is CNC-machined from a single block of aircraft-grade GR5 titanium, which the maker credits with strength, durability, corrosion resistance and low weight. A deep-carry clip and a lanyard hole allow it to ride in a pocket or be attached to a backpack or even a book.

Attention to handling

The campaign puts notable emphasis on ergonomics. Each folding tool has a micro-textured access groove cut into the titanium frame so it can be pulled out with a fingertip. Corners are shaped with precise radius curves, edges receive 0.8mm softening that the maker says avoids pressure points during extended use, and the surface carries a satin brushed finish.
