Why it matters
Orioners describes the Z4 as a compact mini knife inspired by the knuckle knife, built around what the maker calls a "finger-sized" design. According to the maker, it is far smaller than a smartphone and slips easily into a pocket while still handling a range of cutting tasks.
The company takes its name from Orion, the constellation drawn from Greek mythology, which the maker associates with courage and adventure. The Z4 is pitched for both outdoor trips and routine everyday cutting.
Built to carry
The maker lists the Z4 at 100mm folded and 170mm fully open. It can be attached to a keychain, fixed to a backpack strap or clipped to a belt, and the maker says it stays out of the way inside a bag while remaining easy to find.
Blade and lock
According to the maker, the blade is made from a strong material that can withstand being struck against steel, and is intended to hold its edge over long-term use. Blades are designed to be swapped easily to suit different materials, and the maker cites leather, cardboard, pencils, rope and fruit as examples of what it can cut.
A locking mechanism holds the blade in place to keep it from wobbling or folding unexpectedly during use, and the maker says it releases easily when needed.
