Why it matters
Takkimi describes itself as a smart hardware company focused on what it calls agent AI pet companions, designed with fashion and aesthetics aimed at younger users. Its brand philosophy is "born for AI, driven by AI." OwlBear is its take on a desk or bedside companion meant to offer emotional connection rather than utility.
Touch, blink, react
The maker says OwlBear carries a 16-point bionic sensor skin, with sensors placed on the chin, cheeks, back and belly. Rather than simply registering contact, it is said to distinguish in real time between, for example, a hurried tap and a slow, gentle stroke, with touch pressure and speed shaping its response.
Its Synchronized Blinking feature relies on what Takkimi says is a patented mechanical linkage system. When OwlBear turns its head to register your presence, that physical movement itself triggers the blink, so the maker presents it as a reflex rather than a programmed loop or motor-driven vibration.
A personality grown offline
According to the campaign, OwlBear has no camera and no microphone, and all AI processing happens off-cloud. It ships with a neutral personality baseline that shifts with interaction: frequent affection is said to produce a warm, clingy character, while occasional play leads to a more mischievous one. Takkimi frames this as "Memory of Skin," and says no two OwlBears end up alike. The maker also describes Linguistic Emotional Analysis that reads tone of voice and speech rhythm, responding with a slow head tilt or quicker blinking.
Hardware, per the maker
- 5000mAh battery
- Portable magnetic charging dock that connects when OwlBear is placed near it
- Bionic Faux Fur Coat in a blend of 100% polyester fibre and PP cotton, said to resist static and pilling
- Low-Power Silent Dual Servos for quiet head turns, blinks and body tilts
- Customizable appearance, with user-swappable outer materials; the campaign page shows generative-AI concept images such as steampunk and knit styles
Taken together, OwlBear is positioned as a quiet companion for the office desk, the living room sofa and the bedroom shelf, with its appeal resting on subtle physical behaviour and a character shaped by its owner.
