Why it matters

Wowoo Tech pitches the PhotoWallet as the world's first smart wallet with an E-Ink display, a claim the maker makes and Modern-G has not verified. The idea is simple: rather than tucking a printed photo behind a card slot, the wallet carries a 1.54-inch four-color E-Ink panel that can hold up to 100 images.

Photos on low power

According to the maker, the low-power display runs for 8 months on a single charge. Photos are uploaded through a free companion app for iPhone and Android, which the company says carries no subscription or hidden fees. Images can rotate randomly or be selected manually. Charging is wireless on any compatible pad, and the maker claims a full charge takes just 10 minutes; a low-battery reminder appears on the E-Ink screen.

Tracking and recovery

The wallet works with Apple's Find My and Google's Find My Device. The maker says it can send alerts when the wallet leaves preset zones such as home, the gym or the office, and a 90-decibel buzzer can be triggered to locate it nearby. A lost-and-found feature lets owners store a name, phone number and email address in the app; anyone who finds the wallet can press a hotkey on the device to show that contact information on the display, without unlocking anything or opening an app.

The wider family

Two companion products are described. PhotoSlim is a minimal, card-sized holder for essential cards and ID, with a magnetic back that attaches to a phone case and doubles as a stand. PhotoGo targets international travelers, with a carbon fiber body built to hold a passport, boarding passes, cards and a SIM tool.
