Q1 V2

Quick-release connectors for keys and small gear have long forced a trade-off. Magnetic designs are easy to use but, as the source notes, can lack strength and come apart under heavier loads. Mechanical designs are secure but are not always quick to operate with one hand. Q1 V2 is Antdesign's attempt to close that gap.

Magnetic and mechanical, together

The core of the design is a dual magnetic-and-mechanical locking mechanism. The maker says precisely positioned N52 magnets inside pull the two halves together so they lock automatically on approach, while a light pull on the outer case releases them. The intent is one-handed operation, useful when your other hand is full, without the accidental detachment associated with purely magnetic connectors.

Load rating and materials

According to the campaign, the titanium version uses aerospace-grade Grade 5 titanium and weighs only a few grams, yet supports up to 75kg (165lbs) in everyday use. The maker reports that it withstood up to 158kg (348lbs) in load testing, while the recommended safe working load is given as 150lbs. A precision-machined titanium case is said to protect the magnets for long-term use.
