Why it matters
Desktop laser engravers usually ask you to bring the work to the machine. The Sielux SL2 reverses that. According to the maker, the body measures 72×226×153mm and weighs 0.8kg, with an ergonomic grip and a detachable magnetic safety cover that can be removed when working on larger materials.
Handheld first, stand when needed
The headline feature is a handheld mode: the SL2 can be held directly against a surface, which the maker suggests for jobs like adding a logo to an installed wooden sign or engraving an old drawer front. In this mode it covers a 100×100mm area. An upgrade model adds a motorized lifting stand that the maker says extends the work area to 100×600mm and accommodates materials up to 11.7cm tall. A separately sold rotary attachment handles cylindrical objects from 8 to 90mm in diameter, such as mugs and tumblers, and requires the stand.
Specifications the maker lists
- 10W blue laser that the maker says can cut wood up to 8mm thick
- Maximum speed of 4000mm/s
- 0.15mm×0.15mm laser spot and 400dpi resolution
- Support for more than 20 materials, including paper, wood, leather, plastic, glass and foods such as cake and chocolate
- Bluetooth LE and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
- Four alarms: missing protective cover, tilt detection, high-temperature shutdown and galvo stop
AI in the app
A companion app for iOS and Android generates artwork from text prompts such as "a seaside sunset" or "a cute Shiba Inu," the maker says. Choosing a material in the app automatically sets parameters like laser power and speed, and uploaded photos or hand-drawn sketches can be converted into engraving files.
An airflow design is said to combine cooling with dust management, and a rotary lift knob handles height adjustment. A separately sold smoke purifier uses a three-layer filter that, per the maker, removes 99.97% of fine particles, weighs 1.2kg and runs at 55dB or below.
Certification and support
Sielux is the consumer brand of the Hymson Laser group, which supplies laser technology to the medical, energy, display and metalworking industries. The campaign states the SL2 has Japan's MIC radio certification and has passed testing to US CDRH standards. Japan's PSE electrical safety certification was listed as pending, with completion expected before shipping. A Japanese manual and a one-year manufacturer's warranty are included, according to the campaign.
