Why it matters
At first glance the T-REX Stand reads as a minimalist phone stand. According to ThreePeters, unfolding it reveals 11 additional tools aimed at everything from everyday fixes to outdoor emergencies. The maker lists its dimensions as 80mm long and 5mm thick, with a weight of 36.8g.
Built from Gr5 titanium
ThreePeters frames the material choice as a response to throwaway phone stands, citing research that 90% of phone stands are discarded within a year of purchase, largely because they are made from cheap plastic or aluminum. The T-REX Stand instead uses Gr5 titanium, an aerospace-grade alloy the maker notes is also used in aircraft, satellites and artificial bones, describing it as stronger than steel and lighter than most metals.
A patented three-stage fold
The core of the design is what the maker calls a patented three-stage folding mechanism. Each of the three segments locks into place, and a "fold and click" motion turns the flat plate into a stand. It offers three angles: 30° for low-angle viewing, light typing and browsing; 45° for video, reading and recipes; and 60° for video calls, online meetings and front-camera recording. Portrait and landscape orientations are both supported, and an anti-slip pad in the base is meant to keep the phone from sliding. A magnetic SIM ejector pin is stored inside the folding structure.
The tool list
- Phone stand (30°, 45°, 60°)
- Magnetic SIM card ejector pin
- Flathead screwdriver
- Hex wrench for M4, M5 and M6
- Mini pry bar
- Nail puller
- Laser-engraved precision ruler with metric and imperial scales
- Nail file
- Hardened ceramic bead glass breaker
- Sharp edge for use with a ferro rod to start fires
- Two tritium / glow rod slots
The glow slots accept glow vials or tritium tubes. According to the maker, glow tubes are non-radioactive and charge from light, while tritium tubes need no recharging and glow continuously for up to 25 years.
Finishes and add-ons
Two surface treatments are offered: a sandblasted finish with an industrial look and PVD black, which the maker says adds a smooth matte finish with improved wear resistance. Optional extras include custom engraving of names, initials or logos, a titanium quick-release key ring, a stainless steel necklace chain, glow and tritium tubes, and titanium lanyard beads.
