Why it matters

Tacto addresses a familiar problem: needing a blade for a parcel or a driver for a loose screw when neither is to hand. M-Seeker's answer is an everyday-carry tool that puts a cutter at one end and a magnetic bit socket at the other, built from GR5 titanium with a 440C stainless steel blade, according to the maker.

Dual bolt action

The mechanism is modelled on a rifle's bolt action, and the maker says it reproduces the positive click associated with premium pens. Each end slides independently, so a single thumb movement takes either tool from carry mode to working mode, with no cap to remove and nothing to unscrew.

Blade and driver

The cutter is 440C stainless steel, heat-treated to balance hardness and toughness, the maker says, for jobs ranging from packing tape and scoring cardboard to peeling labels and opening paint cans. When retracted, the edge sits about 2mm below the body's surface, and the campaign states the design is compatible with airport security checks. An upgrade to M390 steel is offered for those who want greater wear resistance.

The opposite end holds a magnetic socket for standard 4mm bits, so existing bits can be used for sunglasses hinges, eyeglass screws or battery covers. According to the maker, a strong internal magnet keeps the bit secure even during one-handed use outdoors.

Options and carry

  • Eternal Pen module: an optional add-on using a German-made Modern G15 metal tip that the maker says writes without ink on paper, wood and metal, at any angle and in the rain.
  • Pod: an add-on GR5 titanium case, described as waterproof and dustproof, with individual slots for six 4mm bits or the pen module.
  • Finishes: Stonewashed Titanium or Black Titanium, the latter blacked out down to the blade.
  • Carry: an oversized U-shaped loop for keychains, paracord or bag hooks, with a 360-degree quick-release mechanism.

Tacto has been presented as a Kickstarter project, where the campaign reported surpassing its funding goal.
