Why it matters
IF says it set out to build The Cubik after growing frustrated with knives marketed as one-handed that, in its view, weren't. The use cases it describes are mundane but specific: holding a package, gripping a ladder, any moment when one hand is already occupied.
Gravity Flick
Instead of a spring mechanism, the maker's Gravity Flick system relies on gravity and machined titanium. According to IF, you press a titanium button and tilt your wrist downward; the blade drops open and locks when the button is released. To close it, press the button and return your wrist to level. The maker claims this avoids spring fatigue, eliminates half-deployed states, runs quietly and needs no maintenance because there are no internal wear parts. The campaign states the mechanism has passed more than 500 deployment tests.
Body, blade and carry
The body is CNC-machined titanium alloy, which the maker says delivers strength along with corrosion and heat resistance. Listed dimensions are 1.65 oz (about 46.8 g) and 2.6 in (about 6.6 cm) long. The slim frame carries an anti-slip surface treatment intended to hold grip with wet hands.
The blade is a replaceable trapezoidal utility blade with two cutting edges, so it can be flipped once before replacement. IF claims it handles over 85% of everyday cutting tasks, including leather, paper, rope and fabric, and that a tool-free system swaps blades in 3 seconds without screws or hex keys.
- Deep-carry titanium clip, described as thinner than a guitar pick
- Multipurpose lanyard hole for paracord, key rings or a carabiner
- Tungsten carbide tip at the frame's end for breaking glass in emergencies
- Two tritium vial slots (optional add-on); luminescent tubes are also offered, with tritium said to glow for more than 10 years
- Removable blade for checked luggage; the maker says the blade-free body is under 6 inches for carry-on, in line with TSA rules
Taken together, The Cubik is pitched less as a conventional folder and more as a compact utility tool, with travel and emergency features built around a mechanism that trades springs for gravity.
