Tipen Mini

The premise behind the Tipen Mini is simple: a pen small enough to live on your keys, yet tough enough to survive being carried there every day. YSMART LONDON frames the concept as a contrast between a tiny footprint and a sturdy build, aimed at the quick notes, delivery signatures and passing ideas that tend to arrive when no pen is at hand.

Titanium construction

The body is made from Grade 5 titanium, a high-strength alloy also used in aerospace. According to the maker, the material lets the pen resist scratches, dents and corrosion while riding on a keyring, and keeps it light without feeling flimsy in the hand. At 4.75cm long, it is designed to sit unobtrusively alongside keys.

Magnetic cap and ceramic tip

Instead of a screw-on or push-fit cap, the Tipen Mini uses a cap held in place by a strong magnet, which the maker says can be removed and replaced with one hand. The campaign highlights the click it makes on closing, and notes that a magnetic cap is less likely to go missing.

The ceramic tip is rated 9.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond at 10, according to the maker. The campaign says this lets it write on cardboard and tape as well as paper, cut through packaging and open lids, and, in an emergency, break glass.

Finishes

The pen is offered in several custom finishes, which the maker says are also designed to improve grip:

• Classic: a plain, unadorned design
• Codex: a pattern inspired by ancient scripts and modern circuitry
• Gridlock: geometric triangular lines
• Chainmail: an armor-like linked pattern with a distinctive texture
