Why it matters
Split rings that pry open, key bundles that tangle, gear that hangs at an awkward tilt: Titaner frames the EDC Connector as its answer to the everyday friction of attaching things to other things. The maker describes it as an integrated system rather than a single part, with a main buckle that accepts interchangeable sub-buckles and mounts without tools or an additional key ring.
Two locks, one deliberate release
The core of the design is what Titaner calls a patented magnetic-mechanical dual locking system. An N56 magnet guides the two halves into alignment and seats them with an audible click, while an internal mechanical lock made of GR5 titanium alloy does the actual retaining. Releasing it takes two intentional steps, a push and a 90-degree turn, which the maker says prevents accidental detachment from pulls, vibration or snagging. Titaner states that tensile testing showed the lock withstanding loads well beyond everyday demands, and notes that further tests, including a vehicle pull test, and structural refinements are in progress.
Four sub-buckle families
Rather than a one-size-fits-all clip, Titaner offers four specialized GR5 titanium sub-buckle series, all compatible with the main buckle:
- U series (U4/U8/U12): holds a single item such as a car key or AirPods centered and balanced to limit tilting and swinging.
- X series (X6/X8/X10): for tools with small closed holes, using a reinforced titanium pin the maker describes as watch-grade, fully shrouded by a titanium shell.
- D series (D12/D15/D20): a flat shackle that stacks multiple keys or flat items like ID tags neatly and quietly.
- E series (E25/E30): a tri-glide design for standard 1-inch (25mm) or 1.2-inch (30mm) webbing, with an anti-slip design for backpack straps.
Other features listed by the maker include a 360-degree infinite swivel to prevent tangling and one-handed release. With the sub-connector detached, the N56 magnet also lets the main piece act as a temporary magnetic hook on any magnetic surface.
Material and finishes
Each connector is CNC-machined from a block of GR5 titanium alloy with chamfered edges. Titaner highlights the alloy's strength-to-weight ratio, its resistance to rust and discoloration from sweat, rain and seawater, and its skin-friendly properties, and says the titanium will develop a patina over time. Three finishes are offered: stonewash as standard, with machine finish and anodized yellow or blue available as upgrades through the campaign's add-on section.
