Vortlux PS259

A Grade 5 titanium pocket tool built around four bits, a hidden blade, a pen and a pry bar

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Many multitools compete on feature count. Vortlux says it designed the PS259 the other way around, prioritising how often a function gets used in everyday life. The maker describes seven functions condensed into one keychain-sized body, with anything it considered unnecessary left out to avoid bulk.

What it does

  • Four precision-machined bits: PH2 Phillips, SL3.0 slotted, SQ2 square and T8H Torx security
  • A hidden blade in the centre of the body, deployed by twisting the top section
  • An always-exposed pen that needs no twisting or clicking
  • A reinforced pry bar at the tail, which the maker says can also serve as a glass breaker
  • A tritium tube to help locate the tool in the dark

The maker claims the four bits cover around 90% of household screw tasks, from tightening eyeglass screws and repairing desk peripherals to light furniture assembly and small electronics maintenance, and that their precision machining helps them seat firmly without stripping screw heads. The blade stays fully enclosed when not in use and is intended for light cutting such as opening parcels or cutting string and tape. The pry bar is pitched at tasks like opening paint cans, removing staples and scraping stubborn stickers off glass.

Titanium, in one piece

Vortlux says the body is cut from a single block of Grade 5 titanium alloy, so there are no seams or joints to loosen under load. According to the maker, the material resists corrosion from sweat, rain and humidity, is lighter than steel and is hard enough to resist deformation and scratches in normal use. It is also expected to develop a patina over time. A tritium tube, which the maker says glows without batteries, charging or switches, is meant to make the tool easy to find in a dark entryway or car.

Two finishes are offered: a matte sandblasted surface with a clean, modern look, and a stonewashed finish with a more vintage, industrial character that the maker says hides fine scratches from daily use.
