Why it matters

The brand behind WELSY focuses on smart wellness tools, and it pitches this scale as a way for people to understand, monitor and improve their health with confidence. Its intended audience is broad: athletes, fitness enthusiasts, health-conscious users and older adults.

Eight electrodes, two frequencies

The core of the design is an 8-electrode measurement system combined with dual-frequency BIA. Where common scales use 4 electrodes, WELSY adds hand contacts on a handle, which the maker says enables clinical-level body composition analysis. Using signals at two different frequencies, the scale is designed to scan both extracellular and intracellular fluid, measuring muscle mass, visceral fat, water and protein levels in addition to weight and body fat.

According to the maker, WELSY tracks 56 body metrics, including basal metabolic rate, with segmental analysis of the limbs and torso. The campaign states that comparison testing against DEXA, often treated as the gold standard for body composition, showed a 97% correlation.

Display, app and hardware

  • 4.2-inch color display integrated into the handle, showing BMI, body fat, muscle percentage, body water and weight trends
  • Automatic sync to an iOS and Android app over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, with 23 languages and voice guidance
  • App features for long-term progress, goal setting, meal logging for nutrition analysis and sharing data with trainers or doctors
  • Support for up to 200 users, with the 10 most recent profiles stored locally for later retrieval in the app
  • 320×350mm tempered glass platform with full ITO coating, sized for feet up to US 15 / EU 49 (31cm)
  • Measuring range of 0.1–220kg at 0.1kg resolution, which the maker suggests also suits weighing babies, pets or luggage
  • Encrypted data transfer, with personal health information not shared or displayed without consent

The ITO-coated glass is meant to give readings without requiring users to line their feet up with fixed electrode pads.

Risks the project acknowledges

Integrating dual-frequency BIA sensors, the 8-electrode system and a custom color VA display demands precise calibration and a dependable supply chain, and shortages of conductive materials, chips or display panels could delay production and shipping. As a connected health device, WELSY must also clear certifications such as CE and FCC across regions, where timelines and logistics vary. The team says it is working closely with experienced partners to minimize these risks.
