Why it matters

The maker starts from a familiar complaint: a flat ruler with small printed numbers is hard to read from a natural arm angle, so precise work means repeatedly leaning in to check. Long rulers are awkward to carry, and short ones limit what you can measure. The 25° Ruler Fold-X is orangered life's attempt to address both problems.

An angled scale

The "25°" in the name refers to the body, which slopes at 25 degrees. According to the maker, this lets you read the scale without bending your head or hunching over, which it says helps reduce shoulder and neck strain during long sessions. The graduations use a large font, and the maker says every millimetre mark carries a number. Conventional rulers usually number only each centimetre. orangered life presents this as a way to cut reading errors in woodworking, model making and technical drawing.

Folds in half for carrying

As the "Fold-X" name suggests, the ruler folds. The campaign lists the small size at about 15cm folded and 30cm extended. The maker describes the hinge as durable enough to withstand tens of thousands of folds, and says the ruler stays securely closed so it won't open in a bag.

Materials and details

  • Body in high-strength aircraft-grade aluminium, which the maker says is lighter and tougher than plastic rulers and holds its shape over time
  • Laser-engraved markings that the maker says resist wear and fading
  • Rounded corners with no sharp edges, presented as safer for children
  • A "safe edge" intended to protect fingers when guiding a craft knife
  • Built-in protractor marked every 15 degrees, with key angles such as 30, 60, 90 and 150 degrees clearly indicated
  • Three sizes (S/M/L), metric or imperial scales, and silver, black or gold finishes

According to the campaign, backers include designers, engineers, students and DIY enthusiasts. The maker positions the small size for pocket carry, the medium for general measuring, and the large for big drawings and precise woodworking.
