Ahloobo ZIP ME

A modular weighted blanket whose zip-together panels let you add or remove weight as needs change

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Weighted blankets have a loyal following, but the maker points to two common complaints: they can feel too heavy, and they can run hot. Because a conventional weighted blanket has a fixed weight, it can't adapt to the season or to how its owner feels. Ahloobo's answer, which it describes as a world-first modular design, is a blanket built from separate panels that join and detach with zippers.

Weight you can add, or take away

The idea is that a newcomer starts with a single panel and adds a second or third over time. The maker also suggests one panel for summer nights and three joined together for winter, and pitches the system as something a household can share, with partners and children each using the weight that suits them. Unlike most weighted blankets, removing a panel reduces the weight again.

Each panel is shaped for the upper body, from shoulders to waist. The maker argues that full-size blankets lose much of their weight to the mattress, and claims a single 5-pound (about 2.3kg) or 6-pound (about 2.7kg) panel delivers a sense of security comparable to a conventional 15-pound (about 6.8kg) blanket. Rather than the usual 10%-of-body-weight rule, buyers choose between two options: 6 pounds for people at 55kg or more, and 5 pounds for those under 55kg. The maker recommends starting with the lighter model.

Materials and construction

  • Outer fabric from Portuguese maker Elastron, described as breathable, stain-resistant and easy to wash
  • Fabric stated to comply with EU REACH regulations and to carry OEKO-TEX® certification
  • Fill of 100% natural mica mineral instead of plastic beads; the maker says it disperses heat faster and cites thermal-camera testing
  • Mica described as antibacterial, anti-mold and odor-resistant, with third-party safety certification claimed
  • Stitching that lets the fill move inside each panel so pressure stays even when turning over

Production is described as drawing on Korean textile craft traditions, with each panel sewn by hand and a stated defect rate held at 0.1% or below through inspection. The campaign also cites user feedback about sleeping without feeling smothered; Modern-G has not verified these claims.
