Why it matters
ORICO pitches CyberData as more than a network-attached storage box: a NAS with AI-assisted data management and enough compute to run desktop operating systems and open-source AI models locally. According to the maker, capacity reaches up to 256TB, and the system is designed to work with ORICO's own GPU dock and Thunderbolt RAID cabinets. The campaign also states that no monthly fees are involved.
Mixed storage and Intel silicon
The maker describes a mixed-storage layout: 10 HDD bays, each taking up to 24TB, for bulk and long-term backup, alongside 6 M.2 SSD slots, each up to 8TB, intended for low-latency work such as RAW footage editing and AI model training. Processor options listed include the Intel i5-1240P (up to 12 cores and 16 threads), N150 and N305. Memory is 32GB of DDR5 as standard, expandable to 96GB.
- Dual 10GbE ports and a 40Gbps USB4 port compatible with Thunderbolt 4/3 (specified for CF1000/CF56 Pro)
- Dual 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4/3-compatible ports, which the maker says are up to 8x faster than USB 3.2
- DP and HDMI outputs for 4K and 8K HDR displays
- RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, with RAID 50/60 noted for the CF1000
- ZFS file system, claimed to be 30% faster than EXT4
- Aircraft-grade aluminum frame with large fans and four selectable speed modes
Software: CyberData OS and beyond
ORICO's in-house CyberData OS spans phone, computer and TV apps, with multiple user accounts and storage spaces, end-to-end encryption, real-time intrusion blocking, antivirus and TPM-protected storage pools, plus automatic backups and one-click snapshot recovery. The maker also says users can switch between Windows, Linux, Debian 12 and Ubuntu locally or remotely, install third-party NAS operating systems, and deploy open-source AI models locally through MLC Agent. Other listed features include P2P remote access, team chat and file sharing, AI photo search with semantic, face and location recognition, Time Machine support, dual 4K Plex transcoding, third-party cloud mounting, and AIGC tools on the CF56 Pro and CF1000.
GPU dock and RAID cabinets
The optional ORICO GPU dock uses an Intel JHL6340 Thunderbolt controller with up to 40Gbps bandwidth. The GT550 (550W) is said to support cards such as the 5060Ti/7700XT, while the GT800 (800W) targets the 5090D/7900XTX and is recommended by ORICO for 110V regions. Both use CRPS Platinum power supplies with up to 80Plus Platinum efficiency and 110V–220V input. For storage expansion, the ORICO HD8 and HD10 RAID cabinets connect over USB4/Thunderbolt (40Gbps) and, per the maker, are optimized for CyberData OS.
