Why it matters

Portable power stations tend to be heavy boxes you leave in the car. The Daran R100 takes a different approach: the maker says it weighs 1kg, light enough to carry in one hand or drop into a backpack, and it has a carry handle for grabbing it on the way out.

Ports and output

According to the maker, the R100 has seven ports in total, intended to charge phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, drones and small appliances at the same time. The listed port types are:

  • 100W AC output
  • USB-A
  • USB-C
  • DC output
  • Car (cigarette lighter) socket

The 100W AC outlet is positioned as enough to run devices such as laptops or projectors.

Charging, light and noise

The unit can be recharged from an AC adapter or a solar panel, and the maker says it supports fast charging. Solar input is pitched at extended camping trips and power outages, where sunlight may be the only available source.

A built-in LED light doubles as a work lamp at camp or an emergency light during a blackout. The maker also quotes an operating noise level of 40dB, which it compares to a library or quiet office, so the unit can run overnight without much disturbance.
