Why it matters

Coolers usually force a trade-off. Soft bags are light and easy to carry but tend to leave food sitting in lukewarm meltwater by the next morning; hard coolers keep things cold longer but eat up trunk space and can take more than one person to lift. Freezill is pitched as an attempt to close that gap.

PhaseTherma insulation

The core of the design is what the maker calls PhaseTherma™ Insulation. According to the maker, conventional insulation only slows the movement of heat, whereas this material absorbs and stores surplus cold, then releases it as temperatures inside the cooler fluctuate. The maker says that with 5kg of ice, the interior stays between -1.4℃ and 5℃ for roughly 9 to 10 days.

The campaign cites a test conducted by TÜV in which internal temperatures remained well below room temperature after 10 days. In a comparison against a popular commercially available soft cooler, the maker reports that the competing product reached room temperature by day 3, while Freezill held a stable average of around 1℃. The specific competitor and full test conditions are not detailed.

Build and capacity

  • Two sizes: 14L (about eighteen 335ml cans) and 28L (about forty 335ml cans)
  • Both sizes float, according to the maker
  • Fully waterproof construction intended to keep contents dry in rain or snow
  • A low-effort zipper designed to balance easy opening with a tight seal
  • Puncture-resistant exterior and a durable inner liner meant to tolerate loose ice
  • Sturdy carry handles on a flexible soft body

The maker positions the 14L model for road trips and short weekends for one or two people, and the 28L model for family camping and longer outdoor stays.

Accessories and production

An optional add-on set includes an ice tray that makes 15 medium ice cubes, 400ml ice blocks sized to sit neatly inside the cooler, and a Stay-Dry food pouch intended to keep food out of meltwater and separate items such as raw meat and fruit. The campaign states that contracts with key suppliers are complete, prototypes have been verified, and multiple logistics partners have been lined up to spread delivery risk.
