HiveCore Watch

Power Panda was founded by watch enthusiasts Ken and Jason and, according to the source, has run four previous projects. Its HiveCore Watch takes its name and visual theme from honeycomb geometry, the lightweight, high-strength structure also found in aircraft wings. The maker says the idea of efficient force distribution behind that structure informs the design as a whole.

A wandering-hour movement

The watch is built on a Miyota 9039 base fitted with Power Panda's own rotating hour module, which produces a wandering-hour display rather than a conventional hour hand. Per the maker, the movement uses 24 jewels and beats at 28,800 BPH (eight vibrations per second), with a stated accuracy of ±10 seconds per day and a 36-hour power reserve.

Case, crystal and lume

The case is 316L stainless steel, measuring 42mm wide and 14.16mm thick. On top sits a double-domed sapphire crystal, curved on both the inner and outer surfaces, which the maker says prevents distortion when viewed at an angle; it also carries an anti-reflective coating. A sapphire exhibition caseback shows the mechanical movement. A push-pull crown is used, and water resistance is rated at 5ATM (50 meters).

For low light, the campaign specifies Swiss Super-LumiNova X1 grade, applied to the dial, the semicircular minute track and the hour numerals, glowing green in the dark.
