Why it matters
Most phones are built to hold your attention. The iKKO MindOne, a Kickstarter project, is pitched the other way: a compact device meant to give some of that attention back, aimed at people who want a simpler daily phone or a secondary device. The maker gives its dimensions as 86×72mm and 8.9mm thick, with a 4.02-inch AMOLED display protected by sapphire glass, which the maker rates at 9H hardness.
Two operating systems, one button
The MindOne runs Android 15 and is GMS certified, so Google services and Play Store apps are supported. The maker promises three major upgrades and five years of security patches. Alongside Android sits iKKO AI OS, described as a lightweight companion OS built around focus and productivity. It uses a primary/secondary structure, so a long press of a physical button switches between the two without a restart. The AI OS workspace is password protected, accepts favorite Android apps dragged into it, and bundles tools such as real-time translation, voice memos, summaries and podcast generation, which the maker says require no subscription and route each task to a suitable AI model. According to the maker, it shows no ads and does not listen to conversations, collect user data or use it for training.
Connectivity and camera
Built-in global internet comes in two layers. NovaLink, exclusive to the Pro model, provides connectivity for the AI tools in more than 60 regions without a SIM or setup. A vSIM offers full internet access in more than 140 countries and regions on a pay-as-you-go basis with no contract, and can share a hotspot. A standard Nano SIM slot handles local calls, SMS and data. Power comes from a MediaTek MT8781, a 4G+ platform with carrier aggregation; the maker says it chose 4G+ over 5G to limit heat and battery drain and improve global stability, paired with a 2200mAh battery.
A single camera uses a Sony 50MP sensor with an F1.88 aperture and OIS. It rotates 180 degrees, serving as a selfie camera when flipped up and a rear camera when flipped down.
The snap-in case
- Physical QWERTY keyboard with Gboard support
- Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC, rated at 128dB dynamic range and -115dB THD+N
- 3.5mm audio jack
- 500mAh built-in battery that can act as backup power or a small power bank
- Magnetic attachment
The maker notes the case does not need charging for the keyboard to work, but may draw some power from the phone when its own battery is low.
