Momokit
A vacuum storage bag with a built-in pump that runs off your phone and compresses clothing by up to 80%
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Most vacuum storage bags come with a catch: a separate pump that has to be packed, powered and remembered. Momokit folds that pump into the bag. According to the maker, it draws air out of the bag to compress clothing by up to 80%, with the actual result depending on the type, material and volume of what is inside. Airy garments such as down jackets, fleeces and thick sweaters stand to gain the most.
Powered by whatever is in your pocket
The bag has no internal battery. Instead, the pump runs on external power via USB Type-C, from a smartphone that supports USB OTG power output, a power bank or a Type-C charging adapter. The maker recommends a supply of 5V/2A or more and puts the energy cost of one compression cycle at roughly 0.3–0.5Wh, which it estimates as about 1–3% of a typical 4,000–5,000mAh phone battery. It also notes that some phones may not work properly depending on the model, OS or current limits. Because there is no built-in battery, the maker says the design is easier to fit within common airline carry-on rules, though regulations vary by airline and route.
The pump itself is rated at 30W with a maximum airflow of 174L/min, which the maker says is enough to compress thick clothing in a matter of tens of seconds. A high-airtightness zipper and an automatic exhaust valve are meant to limit air seeping back in, so packed contents stay compact in transit or in long-term seasonal storage.
Materials and layout
- 210D composite fabric combining nylon and TPU, with a stated water pressure resistance of 3,000mm
- IPX8-rated waterproof zipper; the maker stresses the pump is not designed for submersion and the bag should not be put underwater
- Side-opening design for viewing and reaching the whole contents rather than digging in from the top
- Partial transparent window on the front to check contents while keeping some privacy
- Two sizes: 18L (approx. 370g) and 40L (approx. 670g)
- Can be carried by hand, on the shoulder or crossbody, and attached to a suitcase or backpack
That last point positions Momokit as more than a suitcase insert. The maker pitches it as a sub-bag that can be carried on its own when the return trip brings more luggage than the outbound one, as well as a tool for seasonal clothing storage at home.
