K-25 Cooling Silver Sheets

The K-25 team is no stranger to crowdfunding: according to the source, it has launched 10 home and travel products on Kickstarter, including a waffle towel and a cooling pillow. Its latest project turns to the bed itself.

Silver against bacteria

The starting point is a familiar problem. Ordinary sheets can harbor bacteria that lead to odor and a damp, sweaty feel, and the source notes that dermatologists recommend washing sheets every 3 to 4 days, a routine many people find impractical. The maker says its sheets draw on silver's long-known oligodynamic effect, in which even trace amounts can kill microorganisms. Combined with the proprietary FrostFiber cooling fabric, this is claimed to suppress bacterial growth and odor and reduce how often the sheets need washing.

Cooling and comfort

Temperature regulation is the other headline feature. According to the maker, the fabric feels twice as cool as silk and about four times cooler than regular cotton, intended for comfortable sleep even on hot, humid nights. The sheets are also described as hypoallergenic and breathable, designed with sensitive skin in mind, and able to absorb and evaporate sweat quickly so skin does not feel sticky. The maker likens the texture to butter-soft.

Rather than emphasizing thread count, K-25 highlights grams per square meter (GSM), a measure of fabric weight that the source associates with density, softness and durability. The sheets are woven at 170 GSM, which the maker positions as delivering durability and a luxurious feel.
